Department Staff Meeting -
l. The MCL Louisiana Department Staff Meeting will be held in Baton Rouge, LA on October 9th at
the Louisiana Veterans Museum at the USS KIDD. The KIDD is near the “Belle of
Baton Rouge Casino” on the Mississippi River. On a Saturday there should be plenty
parking spaces on the street, or you can park in the Casino’s free parking garage not
far from the KIDD.
2. The hotel, The Belle of B.R. (the old Sheraton), is available for anyone wishing to
come in on Friday night, enjoy the Casino, and be in walking distance of the KIDD
the next morning.
3. The breakfast on Oct 9th will begin at 0800 at the Museum. The Staff Meeting will
begin 0900.
4. LADIES PROGRAM for the morning while we are at our meeting:
A. Free Tour of the La. Veterans Museum at the KIDD
B. Free Tour of the Old La. State Capitol across the street
C. The Casino is close, and also the LASM museum down the street
5. LUNCH will begin as soon as our meeting is over and it will be at the museum. The
ladies will have lunch with the men. Door prizes will be given after the meeting and just
before the lunch. DEVIL DOG GROWL will be held after lunch/memorial service.
6. MEMORIAL SERVICE - depending on the time, we may have a memorial service at
the museum (just outside in the walled area). We plan on having one of our members
play the bagpipes and the USS KIDD will fire volleys from their 5" guns in salute.
7. MARINES - all of us in Baton Rouge are making an effort to make this Staff Meeting
and pleasant one and we hope your wives/guest will come and enjoy the things we have
planned for the ladies. IN ORDER FOR US TO MAKE THIS ENJOYABLE BY ALL,
WE NEED YOU TO ENCOURAGE YOUR MEMBERSHIP AND ESPECIALLY THE
WIVES TO ATTEND.
8. WE NEED TO KNOW - about a week in advance - How Many Will Attend? A return
post card is enclosed for the Commandant of your Detachment to let us know as to how many
of your members/guests we can expect. Please help us so we can prepare enough food.
